To dispense the notion that mathematics is a difficult subject to comprehend, the teachers and students of all project schools celebrated Math Mela. This not only created awareness among students but also conveyed the massages that “Mathematics is an interesting subject if taught in the right way “. Children were provided with all the materials and were encouraged to come up with interesting projects. The creativity and imagination skills of the children were at display and there was thorough enjoyment in not only children but also among teachers. The most interesting project from every class was selected and the children were given prizes.
The Mela got wide appreciation from the Department of Education.
Teachers’ Capacity Building Training: Teachers’ capacity building training was organized where nearly 175 teachers from different schools in Durg district were taught ways to break down barriers in learning and make math enjoyable to all students. Effective usage of math manipulatives was shown during the five-hour training program on 12 April, 2019.
In addition, the teachers of the project schools were given in depth training on the program design, implementation model and deliverables to achieve. They were also oriented on the Math Kits, Activity Booklets, Hard-spot Booklets and worksheets to help them understand its usage and design their instructional practices accordingly.
In the month of April, as holidays were upon schools, Summer Camps – Masti Ki Pathshala were organized in all project schools.
Summer Camp – Masti Ki Pathshala: After the completion of exams, as a part of Math Enhancement Activities, ‘Math Summer Camp – Masti ki Pathshala’ was organized to develop participants’ problem solving and analytical skills while fostering their passion for math. Students were exposed to the richness of mathematics, the fun and creativity involved in exploring the world through math, and the potential unleashed when working with peers in a collaborative environment. Each session was centered on a specific area of mathematics not commonly seen in curricula. Each student, regardless of experience, could explore problems and concepts to the extent they desire. Activities were designed to encourage exploration and self-paced progress.
